New Year, Same Heartbeat
Welcome to The Waldorf School of San Diego
Whether you’re a new family or returning, we’re so glad you’re here! We hope to see you all on September 6th for pancakes, a special opportunity to meet staff, faculty, fellow parents/caregivers & the rest of the people who make up our community and to visit your student’s classrooms! To help you feel prepared and supported for the year ahead, we’ve put together some helpful notes below—take a moment to give them a read.
Stay Current, Stay Connected
All The Ways To Stay Informed
Clear, timely communication is key to a thriving school experience—for students, families, and staff alike. By engaging with the school’s communication tools like ParentSquare, the school calendar, and classroom newsletters, you help create a well-informed, connected community. These tools ensure that everyone stays in the loop, feels supported, and can fully participate in the life of the school—from upcoming events to classroom updates to meaningful announcements. When we all stay connected, our community grows stronger
ParentSquare is our school’s primary communication platform, used for updates, announcements, event reminders, and direct messages between families and staff. It keeps all school-related communication in one secure place—accessible via app, email, or text. Be sure to activate your account to stay connected throughout the year.
Ravenna is the online admissions platform we use to manage applications, forms, and event registrations for prospective families. While it is no longer used for current student calendars or communication, returning families may still access their accounts to view past admissions information or records.
Clarity is the secure platform we use for enrollment contracts, tuition and incidental payments, and financial aid applications. Families can easily upload documents, track application status, and communicate with our tuition office—all in one place. Clarity provides a confidential, streamlined process for managing financial aid, as well as field trip and incidentals billing, and payments each school year.
Get a peek into the rhythm of daily life at our school—classroom moments, seasonal festivals, and the joy of learning in action. While keeping you connected, our social media also serves as a valuable outreach tool, helping us share the spirit of Waldorf education with the wider community.
The Wave Bulletin is your one-stop spot for the latest school happenings—a periodic digest of recent and upcoming ParentSquare posts. Both The Wave and the At-A-Glance Calendar are updated regularly to help you stay informed and organized.

Phone-Free Campus Policy
In alignment with Waldorf education’s emphasis on presence, imagination, and human connection, our campus is a phone-free zone for students during the school day.
Students are not permitted to use cell phones or smart devices on campus, including during recess, lunch, and transitions. Phones must remain off and stored out of sight (in backpacks or with a teacher) from arrival until dismissal.
We ask parents and guardians to support this policy by limiting phone use on campus and modeling mindful, in-person engagement. Necessary phone/laptop use can be done in your vehicle in the parking lot or on the porch of Mat Alul House (House on Little Hill) – also known as the Annex.
Staff members responsible for handling emergencies or school-wide coordination are exempt from this rule, but will use phones with the utmost discretion and only as needed during the school day.
This phone-free approach nurtures focus, fosters meaningful social interaction, and honors the school’s commitment to age-appropriate technology use.
Photo & Video Policy
To protect the integrity of the learning environment and honor family privacy, only designated staff are permitted to take photos and videos for school marketing and yearbook use.
In keeping with our phone-free policy, camera phones are not to be used for photography on campus. Parents and caregivers may not take photos or videos during class, festivals, or events unless explicitly authorized by school administration.
If a teacher invites a parent to document a class activity or field trip, the school provides check-out cameras along with brief training and guidance—particularly regarding students who may not be photographed due to family privacy requests.
For plays and performances, families are encouraged to be present and enjoy the moment. Designated time is typically set aside afterward for photo opportunities.
This approach ensures we preserve a respectful, focused environment while still capturing meaningful moments with care and consent.
Dress Code
Clothing should be comfortable, practical, modest, age-appropriate and icon-free (no tv or cartoon characters, writing, etc.).
Please ensure your children have a hat, sunscreen and loose clothing during the hot weather – we do our best to check the little ones! Alternately, in transitional months the children will need warm layers of clothing so that they are appropriately dressed for cold mornings and warm afternoons. Rain gear is a must on the few rainy days during the school year.
Please take a moment to review the Pedagogical Dress Code Policy Letter here.
Lunch and Meals
- Lineage Meals offers hot lunch program 4 days per week (M-TH). You could find more info and an ordering link here.
- On Fridays, lunch is offered by the 8th grade class, via Pizza Cassette, as a way of raising funds for their two week service trip. Pricing and menu details will be available by the start of the new school.
- Students are also welcome to bring their own lunch, if preferred. All students should bring a morning snack along with water in a reusable bottle. Water-filling stations are available throughout campus.
If Your Child Is Sick
To support the health and well-being of all students and staff, please keep your child home if they are exhibiting signs of illness such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, persistent cough, sore throat, or contagious conditions (e.g., pink eye, lice, or rash of unknown cause).
Children must be fever-free and symptom-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medication before returning to school.
If your child becomes ill during the school day, you will be contacted to pick them up promptly. Please ensure your emergency contact information is current and that someone is available during school hours.
Your cooperation helps us maintain a healthy learning environment for all.
- Do you have medication for your student temporarily or for the whole school year? Be sure submit a Treatment Waiver Form with the medication to the front office. Medicines will be locked up in your student’s class emergency backpack.
- Does your student have any serious medical conditions or allergies? Be sure to update this info in Ravenna, from which our reports are generated for all staff to be aware of for the safety of your student.
