WSSD Senior Projects Showcase

FRIDAY | MARCH 13, 2026
4:30 PM

Join us in celebrating the creativity and dedication of our senior students as they present their capstone projects, showcasing their journey of learning and discovery.

The WSSD Senior Projects program is a cornerstone of our educational philosophy, offering students the opportunity to delve deeply into a subject of their choice. This program not only highlights the culmination of their academic journey but also fosters critical thinking, creativity, and independence. At The Waldorf School of San Diego, we believe in nurturing each student’s unique potential, preparing them for a future of lifelong learning and contribution to society.

Our Presenting Seniors

Meet our seniors and get brief a description of their end-of-year projects.

Ana Beatriz Gomides Dias

Neuroscience: Research, Ethics, and Implementation into Public Health

Wanting to explore potential careers, Ana Beatriz began with a neuroscience summer program, an experience that led her to examine, through neuroethics, who bears the benefits and risks of emerging neurotechnologies. She gained an understanding of ongoing research in the field by interning at a company developing treatments for chronic neurological conditions and at a UC San Diego faculty lab focusing on autism and neurodegenerative diseases. As a swim instructor at the YMCA, she taught Adaptive Swim Lessons to neurodivergent children, working to expand access to water safety for a group disproportionately vulnerable to drowning while deepening her interest in the intersection of neuroscience and public health.

Gwyon McGrath

Exploration of Hand-crafted Baseball Bats

Have you ever wondered how baseball bats are made so perfect and round? Gwyon experimented with the creation of hand crafted wooden baseball bats. He will cover his triumphs and failures throughout his experience; learning the tools, the Lathe, and the nuances of making a bat. Gwyon will also be sharing his process of painting and sealing his bats as well as testing the effectiveness of his bats in the batting cages.

Mateo Ancira

Dog Obedience Training

This project concentrates on dog training and its positive effects for both the trainer and learner. He focuses on training his own CGC-certified dog with lighthearted tricks, practicing crucial leash and obedience training, as well as researching the behavioral impact training can have for stray dogs.

Oscar

Hands-only Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation

This senior project aimed to contribute to the University of California San Diego’s “Revive and Survive” program and the American Red Cross with the goal of teaching one million people CPR in the San Diego community. The purpose of the project was to help the community through public health education and outreach. He did this by participating in CPR classes, visiting local community centers and hosting free classes, providing vital information that could possibly save a person’s life.

Truss Abenroth

Rites of Passage

Everyone experiences moments of great change in their life: from your first day of school to your 18th birthday, everyone experiences events that clearly separate all that comes before and after. To understand the workings of these rites of passage, Truss supported a wilderness-based retreat focusing on the journey into elderhood. He will be sharing his experience.

Elijah Reece

The Art of Bouldering

This project is a dive into the physical and mental benefits of bouldering. Climbing consistently and experiencing the challenges and pain along the way. Learning to boulder inside a climbing gym as well as on rocks outdoors. Persevering and growing stronger mentally and physically by learning to see the best route to the top.

Cruz Vasquez

Fact Book on Prehistoric Predators

Learning about prehistoric animals, such as dinosaurs, has been a huge passion of mine since a young age, so I decided to write and design my own fact book centered around apex predators of prehistory. I designed the book to be read by all audiences, not just kids or adults. I did not want the book to be too scientific or too boring, so I combined the scientific nature of fact books with an essence of fun. The fun being the art style of book, a long with the writing, looking and sounding as dramatic and epic as possible.

Luc Chatelain

Day Trading Explained

Throughout the past couple years, the concept of extreme short term investment has skyrocketed in popularity. Many people have claimed this idea to bring an abundance of success, while others say that it can only be compared to gambling. The job was to heavily research and discover the in’s and out’s of this viral technique, and ultimately come to a conclusion; is day trading just a guessing game or is there a simple technique that can guarantee stock market success?

Annemyn Moreno

Organizing: Understanding and Addressing Hoarding Behavior

For her senior project, she focused on helping people with hoarding behaviors and learned a great deal by working with a mentor. Throughout this project, she got to understand the psychological, ethical, and practical aspects of working with hoarders. Besides getting hands-on experience, she also looked into what it takes to become a certified professional organizer.

Sofia Dulin

Jewelry-making and Repurposing Silver

For her senior project, Sofia blow-torched her fingers, snapped a few saw blades in half, and accidentally shot hot metal into the air, all while immersing herself in the world of jewelry making. She’ll share her experiences meeting silversmiths to learn their process, studying different jewelry practices, repurposing recycled materials and creating her own collection of original silver pieces.

Sofia’s inviting you to participate in an interactive workshop and demonstration to learn a few things about jewelry making yourself (just without any unwanted flames or flying metal).

Jael Frutiger

From Player to Official: The Path to Becoming a College Volleyball Line Judge

For her senior project, Jael pursued certification as a line referee for community college volleyball. She will share her journey from being a player on the court to becoming an official outside the court, helping the other team of referees make fair calls throughout the game.
