The Conrad Prebys Foundation Awards Scholarship Funding Grant to The Waldorf School of San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA – We are excited to announce that The Waldorf School of San Diego received a $25,500 grant from The Conrad Prebys Foundation. These funds will support our important work to create a more accessible educational environment through scholarships to area students from low-income households.

“The resiliency of San Diego’s youth has been stretched and challenged in unimaginable ways during the pandemic, and the Foundation is grateful to be able to give to a range of nonprofits as they work to support, inspire and care for the future leaders of our region,” said Erin Decker, director of grant making at The Conrad Prebys Foundation.

The summer 2021 grant cycle is a continuation of the Foundation namesake’s passion and legacy for philanthropic giving. The Waldorf School of San Diego is honored to be selected as part of only the second-ever Foundation grant cycle, which awarded nearly $13 million in grant funding to 102 grant projects. The awarded applicants reflect a balance between focus areas of personal interest to Conrad Prebys and the urgent needs of our community, which has been upended due to the coronavirus pandemic. Impact areas for the summer 2021 grant cycle include: animal conservation, health care, higher education, youth development, visual and performing arts, and medical research.

“Support from The Conrad Prebys Foundation grows our school’s need-based scholarships enabling students from all economic backgrounds, with particular emphasis on attracting and retaining youth from our immediate neighborhood,” said Rachel Davis, WSSD Administrator. “We hope this will inspire others to help sustain this meaningful effort to increase our educational impact and accessibility.”

Conrad Prebys experienced incredible joy through the act of giving to causes he was passionate about, and the foundation hopes that these gifts – including several matching opportunities being funded – will inspire others to give as well.

Stewardship to the Environment: a Zero Waste Student Shares

The word, “zero waste,” means to produce no waste. So, for my family, it means that if we can’t reuse it, compost it or recycle it, we will refuse it and just not buy it. So, when you have extra food scraps, you compost it, or when you’re at the store and you could choose between paper or plastic, you would pick paper. We do everything other people do like shop, eat at restaurants, wear makeup and travel, we just make conscious decisions to reduce our carbon footprint at the same time.
